United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust is situated in the county of Lincolnshire and is one of the biggest acute hospital trusts in England, serving a population of over 720,000 people.
The Trust has five core values, which are:
- The delivery and development of services to be patient-centred
- Put patient safety and well-being above everything
- Measure and continuously improve standards, striving for excellence at all times
- Offer patients the compassion everyone would want for a loved one
- Show respect for patients and for each other
The Trust’s aims are to be:
- Safe and responsive
- Caring and effective
In an effort to sustain their values and meet their aims, the United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust needed an installation of wireless access points across Lincoln, Grantham and Louth hospitals, to be used for numerous applications including: providing wireless access to all corporate wireless devices, connectivity for wireless VoIP telephones, internet access for patients, RFID asset tracking of medical equipment, and more.
The ULH awarded Trisoft the contract to install over 1000 new Aruba Wireless Access Points across Lincoln, Grantham and Louth hospitals, and to replace existing legacy wireless access points with new Aruba units.
After we had been awarded the contract, consultation began with our project managers, ULH IT managers and members of the ULH Estates team to program and plan this challenging project, which involved installing new cabling from computer rooms to over 1000 locations around the hospitals, and mounting new access points. Special consideration was given to the challenges of working in a busy hospital, and we worked closely with ULH staff to minimise disruption to their services. The specific hospital departments that Trisoft worked in were pre-programmed to allow hospital staff advance warning of the work, which was particularly essential when working in Operating Theatres and other key areas. Work began at Grantham Hospital in April 2015 with 340 Aruba Access points being installed in just 10 weeks. On completion of the work at Grantham hospital, we immediately started work at Boston and then Lincoln Hospital with the project being completed within the set timescales in October 2015.
Trisoft project managers liaised directly with ULH IT staff and provided weekly project reports and documentation. Overall, the project was successfully delivered, with over 1000 wireless access points.
“The team at Trisoft kept us up to date throughout the project, and were always friendly and professional. The technicians were knowledgeable and helpful, and the work was delivered on time and with minimal disruption to the hospitals.”
