Last week Microsoft announced a whole new kind of server, the Nano Server, which aims to solve the issues that it’s typical business server has when used in a Cloud set-up. It comes pre-packed with born-in-the-cloud applications and containers to allow you to take full advantage of the Cloud and all its capabilities.
This new purpose-build OS is built with a new kind of tech culture in mind. We now see an ever changing and evolving landscape of software and apps, all of which demand speed, agility and, most importantly, a lower resource usage than traditional servers. This is where the Windows Server has previously fallen back in the Cloud tech race.
The Nano Server is a size zero, sugar-free, light version of the Windows Server we are all know and love. According to the TechNet blog it has 93% lower VHD size, 92% fewer critical bulletins and 80% faster reboots.
Key business benefits:
- A better platform to run Cloud applications
- Less updates required
- Better utilisation of resources
- Stricter security
